HOMAGE TO THE TEACHER

Teacher, educator, pedagogue, are different terms to refer to the educational side and techniques of teaching and expresses the role of those who traditionally gives lessons or teach a craft, and it is to the figure of the schoolteacher, to whom philately devoted this self adhesive stamp as homage and in acknowledgement to a profession of great importance in society.

Amongst the memories of our childhood always appear the far-off figure of the schoolteacher with whom we learnt our first words and the first rules of behaviour in the school room. In the eyes of the young pupil, they are the biggest representatives of culture and knowledge and are a link between family and school. Beloved and respected by the community, besides transmitting knowledge and experience, schoolteachers instils in their pupils other educational values such as respect, tolerance and responsibility. Thus the important role they have in the development of the child’s personality.

With this issue, philately pays homage to this figure in acknowledgement of their pedagogical task and the role they play in coordinating the child’s home with school. It also reminds the public opinion of their job as educators and the social role they play. A developed society demands the support and respect of this profession that influences people form their early years.
