Loss

The beneficiary of any compensation will always be the sender. If the sender wants the recipient to receive the compensation, they must present a signed request to Correos authorising the compensation for the recipient.

These are the products that are covered or guaranteed for loss:

Carta Certificada Internacional

For loss:
  • Deadlines in which to register an incident or claim: minimum 15 days and maximum 6 months, from the reception date of the shipment.
  • Compensation: the maximum amount is the rate +30 SDR or rate + Declared Value if you have taken out insurance, the maximum coverage of which is €3,000.
  • The Special Drawing Right (SDR) is a currency created and used by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) whose value is the sum of certain amounts of various currencies: the US dollar, the euro, the Chinese yuan, the Japanese yen and the British pound. SDRs can be exchanged against freely usable currencies. The value of the SDR set by the UPU for the year 2026 is 1 SDR = €1.2119.
  • Terms and Conditions: you must use envelopes and packaging that ensure the integrity of the contents, which is why Correos offers a wide variety of products adapted to all your needs. Remember that the return address and the recipient's details must be visible on the packaging.
  • Documents to provide: if claiming for a lost shipment or missing content, with Insurance or Declared Value, we may ask for documentation accrediting the value of the goods, or invoices for repair or replacement.
  • Customers with contracts will receive compensation according to the terms and conditions set out in their contracts.

Paquete Internacional Económico

International Guarantees:
For loss:
  • Deadlines in which to register an incident or claim: minimum 25 days and maximum 6 months, from the reception date of the shipment.
  • Compensation: rate paid + 40 SDR + 4.5 SDR/kg
  • If the shipment is covered by Insurance or a Declared Value (max.€3,000), the compensation would be the price paid + Insurance or Declared Value.

  • Compensation: price paid + €52.98.
  • If the shipment is covered by Insurance or a Declared Value (max.€3,000), the compensation would be the price paid + 52.98 euros + Insurance or Declared Value.
  • Documents to provide: if claiming for a lost shipment or missing content, with Insurance or Declared Value, we may ask for documentation accrediting the value of the goods, or invoices for repair or replacement.
