In order to meet postal needs, four postage stamps are being issued in the so-called "Basic series", with the values €0.02, €0.27, €0.52 and €0.77, on which the updated picture of His Majesty Juan Carlos I is reproduced.
Juan Carlos I was proclaimed King of Spain on 22 November 1975. The first stamps of his reign were issued in December that same year. However, the first basic series was not put in circulation until 15 July 1976. This was followed by the 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002 series and the one we are now concerned with. Since the year he was proclaimed, the image of the Spanish monarch, the Queen and members of the Royal Family have appeared on the following issues: First voyage of the King and Queen of Spain, H.M.
