Spanish Fashion is one of the themes that illustrate the souvenir sheets issued throughout the World Philatelic Exhibition that will take place in Malaga from the 7 to the 13 October. The fashion designers Vitorio & Lucchino are one of the most representative Spanish international fashion firms and have been chosen to feature in this fashion issue. This firm, as well as other designers, has taken Spanish fashion to the avant-garde of the world catwalks.
Andalusia born Victor Rodriguez Caro and José Luis Medina del Corral, best known as Victorio & Lucchino, started working together in the seventies in Seville in a design company and soon became partners in a common venture sharing similar ideas on fashion. They opened their first shop in the famous Sierpes street in Seville where they became well know for their successful wedding dresses. This success drove them to present their first spring-summer collection in 1985 in New York. A year later, in the Cibeles catwalk, they began to show two prêt-a-porter collections per year. Throughout these years they’ve attended the London, Milan, Düsseldorf, Chicago and New York shows. They have been awarded amongst others the Spanish waard “La Medalla de Oro al Mérito de las Bellas Artes” (Gold medal of the Fine Arts) The andalusian roots of Vitorio & Lucchino are visible in all their garments, full of colour in which the red stand out in all types of clothes and accessories as “symbol of blood, passion, fiesta and fire”. Innovative in shapes and volume, they have introduced ruffles in sleeves, necklines and hems as a new creative concept. Besides they have also produced a line of perfumery products as well as bags, shoes and jewels. The souvenir sheet has been designed by the Jesús Sánchez studio, in Seville, who was awarded the design contract announced by Correos. The stamp depicts the logo of Vitorio & Lucchino and that of the Exhibition on a piece of fabric. In the illustration surrounding the stamp is depicted the portrait of the designers with the exhibition theme “La mar de sellos”.
