The National Philatelic Exhibition (EXFILNA 2007), is one of the most important philatelic shows in Spanish Philately an aims at giving an impulse to stamp collecting This year it celebrates its XLV edition in the city of Palma from the 16 to the 22 of April at the Centre Cultural de la Misericordia. For this new edition of EXFILNA a souvenir sheet is issued depicting a view of the city of Palma with the palace of the Almudaina and in the background, a panoramic view of the Cathedral of Mallorca, with its main façade facing the sea.
The palace of the Almudaina, is the old residence of the Muslim governors of the island, and became royal residence to the King of Mallorca during the XIII and XIV centuries. It is currently a museum. From the Almudaina stands out the façade facing the sea with a covered balcony with towers and merlons, the tinell or gothic room and the chapel of Santa Ana, built on order of King Jaume II, with a Romanic façade which conserves an interesting altarpiece from the XV century. The cathedral of Palma, commonly known as La Seu, is the main Christian building in the island of Mallorca. It was built on the ruins of the Media Mayurga mosque. It is of a gothic Levantine style and its high vaults make it one of the highest in Europe. Its construction began in 1229 after the reconquest of the island by the crown of Aragon and was consecrated in 1346, though the works carried on during the following centuries. It has a big rose window presiding over the main altar and inside it stands out the chapel of the Trinitat from 1329 with carved tombstones by Frederic Marés, the Reial and Baldaquino chapels by Gaudi and the chapel of Sant Pere with ceramic works by Barceló. In Mallorca, whose name is famously known for tourism, sea and sun, the city of Palma marvels visitors with its rich cultural heritage and its commercial activity.
