MINIMIS

In order to multiply commercial exchanges and to facilitate international trade, the United States decided to increase the minimum value of goods not subject to customs duties and fees. The minimum value of goods exempt from duties and taxes, called “de minimis”, was set in 1993 at $200 and was increased in March 2016 to $800. This decision made between the President of the United States and the American Department of Border Protection and Customs has been ratified in the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act of 2015.
