What is the Email Checker?

The Email Checker is a new digital tool that we have designed to combat fraud and identity theft. By using this checker, you can check that the emails you receive from Correos about shipments and parcels really come from us. We now include a code consisting of letters and numbers in all emails that we send about shipments and parcels so that recipients can check the authenticity of those messages. This quick and easy solution guarantees your security. We look after you. 

How does the Email Checker work?

The best thing about the Email Checker is that it’s easy to use. Just follow the steps below to look after your own cyber-security:

  1. Access the Email Checker from the Correos website or from the Information Security space in the Customer Service portal. 
  2. Enter your email address and the code appearing at the bottom of the email you received.
  3. Click CHECK.
  4. The Email Checker will respond with an OK if your email is safe.
  5. If the answer is not OK, read the information shown by the system carefully, as it could be a fake email and a phishing attempt.

Where can I find the code?

The code is a combination of letters and numbers appearing at the bottom of the email you received from Correos. Remember: emails that have a code are those related to shipments and parcels, but if you receive another type of email with a code, you can also check its authenticity on the official Correos website. Including this code in emails is a gradual process that will be extended to all Correos communications. 

Very important! Don’t forget to enter the full code into the checker to perform the check.  

What responses might I get from the email checker?

Responses when there is no fraud risk

  • OK. This email has been sent by Correos and is safe.

Responses when there is a fraud risk 

  • Very important! This email was not sent by Correos. It may be a fake email and a phishing attempt. See further information.
  • Attention! This email address has already been checked. If it was not you who performed this check, it may be a fake email and a phishing attempt. See further information.

How does Correos support the fight against fraud?

The fight against fraud is one of the main missions for Correos at the moment. We guarantee the cyber-secure digitalisation of our ecosystem and have therefore made changes to our communications:

  • We incorporate a unique code consisting of letters and numbers in our shipment and parcel emails so that you can check the authenticity of the emails you receive from Correos.
  • We have created a new digital tool for you, the Email Checker, so that you can check the code and the authenticity of the email. 

When is this initiative being launched?

The insertion of the code consisting of letters and numbers for shipment and parcel emails sent by Correos will be implemented from May 2022. From them on, the new Email Checker tool will become available for you to check the authenticity of any message received from us. 

This initiative will be progressively extended to other emails sent by Correos, so if you receive another type of email with a code, you can check it on the official Correos website.

What happens if I receive a shipment and parcel email from Correos and it doesn’t have a code?

Be careful! If from May 2022 onwards, you receive a shipment and parcel email from Correos that doesn’t contain a code, it could be a case of attempted fraud by phishing. Remember that all emails from Correos related to shipments and parcels must contain the code made up of letters and numbers. 

Is the letter and number code personal?

Yes, a unique and personal code is generated for each email. Under no circumstances can two emails have the same verification code.

How many times can I verify the code?

Important! After entering a code correctly, you will only be able to check its authenticity that one time. It is not possible to check a code more than once. 

How can I check the authenticity of the email received?

You can check the authenticity of the emails received from Correos by using the Email Checker. You can find this tool on the website at Correos.es.

What information do I need to enter into the checker?

It’s very simple! You just need to enter two things into the Email Checker: your email address and the code consisting of letters and numbers appearing at the bottom of the email.

What happens if the response is OK?

If the Email Checker responds with an OK, the email was indeed sent by Correos and you can trust the content. This OK guarantees the authenticity of the email you have received!

What happens if the response is not OK?

If the Email Checker responds with anything except an OK... Be careful! You are probably looking at a fake  email and a phishing attempt.
