Frequently asked questions

What is the Email and SMS Verifier?

The Email Checker and SMS is a new digital tool that we have designed to combat fraud and identity theft. By using this checker, you can check that the emails and SMS you receive from Correos about shipments and parcels really come from us. To this end, we have introduced a code consisting of letters and numbers that identifies all communications we issue from our mail and parcel services, in order to verify their authenticity. This quick and easy solution guarantees your security. We look after you.

How does the Email and SMS Verifier work?

The best thing about the Email and SMS Checker is that it’s easy to use. Just follow the steps below to look after your own cyber-security:

  1. Access the Email Checker and SMS from the Correos website or from the Information Security space in the Customer Service portal.
  2. Enter your email address or telephone number and the code shown at the end of the message you have received.
  3. Click CHECK.
  4. The Email and SMS Verifier will display OK to confirm that your message is secure.
  5. If the answer is not OK, read the information shown by the system carefully, as it could be a fake communication and a phishing attempt.

Where can I find the code?

The code is a combination of letters and numbers that appears at the end of the message you have received from Correos. Remember: emails and SMS that have a code are those related to shipments and parcels, but if you receive another type of communication with a code, you can also check its authenticity on the official Correos website. The inclusion of the code in our emails and text messages is a gradual process that will eventually extend to all other communications from Correos.

Very important! Don’t forget to enter the full code into the checker to perform the check.

What kind of responses can I expect when I verify my email or SMS?

Responses when there is no fraud risk

How does Correos support the fight against fraud?

The fight against fraud is one of the main missions for Correos at the moment. We guarantee the cyber-secure digitalisation of our ecosystem and have therefore made changes to our communications:

  • We include a unique alphanumeric code in our emails and text messages regarding postal and parcel deliveries so that you can verify the authenticity of any communications received on behalf of Correos.
  • We have created a new digital tool for you, the Email Checker, so that you can check the code and the authenticity of the email or text message.

What happens if I receive an email or text message from Correos’s postal and parcel service and it doesn’t include a code?

Be careful! If you receive an email or text message about deliveries and parcels purporting to be from Correos but containing no reference code, it could be a scam. Remember that all emails and text messages from Correos related to shipments and parcels must contain the code made up of letters and numbers. If it doesn’t have a code, it’s not from Correos.

Is the letter and number code personal?

Yes, this code is generated uniquely and individually for each email and SMS. Under no circumstances can two communications have the same verification code.

How can I check whether the email or text message I’ve received is genuine?

You can check the authenticity of any emails or text messages received on behalf of Correos using the Email and Text Message Verifier. You can find this tool on the website at Correos.es.

What information do I need to enter into the checker?

It’s very simple! You just need to enter two pieces of information into the Email and SMS Verifier: your email address or phone number and the code consisting of letters and numbers at the end of the message.

What happens if the response is OK?

If the Email and SMS Verifier shows OK, the message has indeed been sent by Correos, so you can trust its content. This OK confirms that the message you’ve received is genuine!

What happens if the response is not OK?

If the Email and SMS Checker returns a response other than OK... Be careful! You are probably looking at a fake message that could be a scam.
